Description:
This workshop focuses on making an altered book from an old book you are ready to recycle.
Explore new ways to turn the blank pages into a travel or writing journal or a collection of your photos, memorabilia, recipes, scrapes of paper from an event or words to live by. We will begin by removing the original pages, make a new creative cover from the paper, fabric, and adornments and then refill it with new signatures.
The outcome will be a book that will bulge with color and texture using a variety of media and concepts, We will explore ways to create backgrounds and learn many processes and techniques to create artistic pages such as edge treatments, collage, borders, painted pages, secret writing, sewing onto pages, mind mapping, tipping in, fly out pages and more.
We will make a book within a book, pockets, envelope enclosures. A variety of materials will be included in our designs: interesting papers, ribbon, cord, grommets, brads, stamps, adhesives, color with pens, pencils, paints and ink pads. Beads, buttons, or scrapes we have collected from other projects will be interspersed throughout the book.
The outcome is a reflection of your life experiences. Some people hand these down from generation to generation. Others give them as gifts to their relatives and friends, others display them as works of art...it's up to you. Join us for an interesting, explorative process and walk away with a piece of art that integrates creativity with meaning.
